Franco Colapinto to Have Final Test with Alpine Before Summer Break

By: rootdata|2026/07/27 23:49:00

Franco Colapinto finished 15th in the Hungarian Grand Prix, wrapping up the first half of the year in Formula 1 before the summer break. However, the driver from Pilar will still have action on the tracks this week before the break.

In Budapest, the Argentine driver will return to drive the A526 in Pirelli tests, crucial for 2027. These tests are conducted by the tire company for the upcoming season. Drivers use different prototypes and provide feedback to the multinational about how they felt on the track.

"I’m looking forward to the test here. It’s a few more days to learn a bit more about the car before relaxing a bit," Colapinto stated regarding his interest in participating in the tests at the Hungaroring.

The tests will take place between Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and Alpine will not be the only team participating; Audi will also be present, just like the Argentine team, on both days. Aston Martin will also be there, but only on the first day, as on Wednesday they will present their new Honda engine that they will debut at the Dutch Grand Prix.

This opportunity allows Franco Colapinto to continue gaining experience with the Alpine single-seater in a non-competitive activity that will only serve to provide data on the tires to the Italian firm.

The last Pirelli tests with Colapinto ended with a spin

In 2025, Colapinto had already participated in the tire brand's tests at the Hungaroring circuit alongside Charles Leclerc from Ferrari. However, on that occasion, they drove cars similar to theirs but with modifications made this season.

In the first session of the second day, the Argentine spun out after completing only 25 laps and could not return to the track. Pirelli assured that "the tires had nothing to do with" the incident, and Leclerc was able to complete 144 laps.

When Will Franco Colapinto Race Again in Formula 1

The first part of 2026 concluded with 11 of the 13 scheduled races, as the Saudi Arabian and Bahrain Grands Prix were not held due to the war in the Middle East. However, the FIA (International Automobile Federation) has already confirmed that the second will take place in Malaysia between October 2 and 4 at the Sepang circuit.

This Sunday, the Hungarian Grand Prix concluded, in which Lando Norris, the reigning champion, took the victory. Franco Colapinto finished in 15th place with an Alpine that still struggles to find stable performance.

Kimi Antonelli leads the Constructors' Championship table with 219 points, followed by Lewis Hamilton with 169 points, while Colapinto is in 12th place with 19 points in his best season in F1 since his debut in 2024.

The next Grand Prix will be held from Friday, August 21, to Sunday, August 23, at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands. For almost a month, the teams will be required to close their doors according to regulations, and none of the drivers will be able to get back into their single-seaters, except for the Pirelli tests.
