World Ordered to Delete Over 1.2 Million Iris Scan Data Collected in Thailand

BlockBeats News, November 26th, according to DL News report, the Thai data regulatory agency has ordered World, the iris scanning project led by Sam Altman, to delete over 1.2 million records it collected in Thailand.

Thai Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Chaichanok Chidchob, stated that the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) also ordered the company to suspend all its operations in Thailand on Monday.

In Thailand, an expert panel appointed to investigate whether World violated the country's data protection law has concluded that collecting biometric data in exchange for cryptocurrency constitutes illegal activity. World has ceased its iris scanning operations in Thailand.
