U.S. Government Covertly Establishes $26.7 Billion Corporate Equity Investment Portfolio
The Trump administration has cumulatively invested approximately $26.7 billion in companies such as Intel, MP Materials, Vulcan Elements, xLight, and several quantum computing firms through at least four agencies, including the Department of Commerce, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. These investments include a passive equity stake of about 9.9% in Intel held through the Department of Commerce, with its market value rising from approximately $8.9 billion to about $42 billion. Aside from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, which has a clear legal framework for equity investments, the other agencies operate under vague authorizations, with related holdings not disclosed in a centralized manner and almost no reflection of returns in the federal budget, raising concerns about investment transparency, long-term management mechanisms, and potential conflicts of interest related to the President's own holdings.
