Tokenized Stock Market Size Triples, Expanding Price Discovery Function
The size of the tokenized stock market increased from approximately $490 million in March to about $1.64 billion in July. Even after the domestic stock market closes, perpetual futures for Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are traded 24/7 on overseas platforms, expanding the price discovery function. According to an analysis by the Korbit Research Center, the correlation rate between the night price of SK Hynix perpetual futures and the opening price on the next trading day is about 85-90%, indicating a potential reduction in prediction errors by 60-70%. However, the daily spot trading volume of tokenized stocks is around $400 million, which is less than 0.1% of the global stock market's daily trading volume of approximately $600 billion. Currently, the tokenized market closely follows the prices established on existing exchanges, and there are calls for institutional discussions to protect investors. Prices of Korean assets are being formed in offshore markets that are not covered by the domestic investor protection system, necessitating monitoring and institutional preparedness.
