Creation of the Observatory of Religions in Buenos Aires
The Governor's Chief of Advisors has created the Observatory of Religions of the province of Buenos Aires, aimed at surveying, systematizing, analyzing, and disseminating information about religious diversity in the Buenos Aires territory. The measure was formalized through Resolution 370/2026, published in the Official Bulletin. The Observatory will operate under the Directorate of Worship, which is part of the Provincial Directorate of Relations with the Community, and will seek to produce systematic information on different religious expressions to strengthen public policies and promote dialogue between the State and religious organizations. The resolution emphasizes that religious diversity is significant in social and cultural life and highlights the role of religious organizations in social support and assistance. The province houses 19 of the 72 ecclesiastical jurisdictions in the country and 25% of the national Catholic temples, in addition to important pilgrimage centers. 40.2% of the registrations in the National Register of Worship correspond to organizations in the Buenos Aires territory. Among the functions of the Observatory is the surveying of religious heritage and the creation of a georeferenced map of temples. It will also be responsible for recording the stories of Buenos Aires residents venerated by the Catholic Church. The Directorate of Worship will coordinate the organization and invite municipalities and organizations to collaborate.
